Memorial Day is coming up this weekend and to CrossFitters around the country this usually means honoring our fallen heroes with Murph.
If you haven’t heard of Murph, it is one of the classic CrossFit Hero WODs performed on Memorial Day weekend. Hero WODs are created to honor men and women that have fallen in the line of duty. This one specifically honors Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy, who was killed in action in Afghanistan on June 28th, 2005.
While leading his team of three fellow Navy Seals on a mission to find a Taliban leader, Lieutenant Michael Murphy and his team were attacked by over 100 Taliban fighters. To try and save his team, he stepped out into the gunfire to make a satellite call for help and was shot.
Lieutenant Murphy was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor after his death.
This workout was one of Murphy’s favorite and originally called Body Armor. Now known as Murph, it is commonly done every Memorial Day with CrossFitters joining together to suffer through this workout to pay tribute to his memory. You might even see CrossFitters that serve our country perform it in full gear.
Class starts at 9:30 AM and there will be a Community barbecue to follow. Feel free to bring a dish to contribute, and a BYOB!
